Erik L. Gray has joined the Lerner, Arnold & Winston (LAW) team. Erik has been a practicing personal-injury attorney in New York City for over seventeen years. He has experience in every phase of litigation, from case intake to trial, and has successfully resolved hundreds of cases involving motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, and civil rights/police misconduct, either through settlement or verdict. Prior to entering law school in 1997, Erik was a police officer with the Fort Lee (NJ) Police Department for seven years, where he was awarded four awards for valor, two awards for service, and one award for lifesaving. He was also inducted into the prestigious Honor Legion of the Police Departments of the State of New Jersey for risking his life to save human lives by entering a burning apartment building and escorting numerous residents outside to safety.
Erik is known as a congenial but tenacious litigator who prepares every case as if it will go to trial. His detail-oriented approach and knowledge of the law often results in recoveries that exceed his clients’ expectations. Erik also treats his injured clients with the utmost compassion, respect, and understanding, never forgetting that they are real people who have been through a traumatic, and sometimes life-altering, event. In 2015, he was the lead attorney on a $2,000,000 settlement of a civil rights/police misconduct case against the NYPD, which was the highest reported settlement by VerdictSearch for such a case in New York that year. Erik is a life member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum and has been listed in VerdictSearch’s top New York verdicts and/or settlements for 2010-2013 and 2015-2016.
Erik lives in Manhattan with his middle-school age daughter and their cat, an ASPCA rescue
